Air Force Retained Area
Former Badlands Bombing Range

Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA)

MATRIX serves as Project Manager for Native American Environmental, LLC in development of an EE/CA Work Plan, Field Investigation and EE/CA Report on a 2,486 acre parcel of USAF land used as a former air-to-air gunnery range during World War II located within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.  The purpose of the EE/CA project was to validate former geophysical surveys conducted at  the site and determine the nature and extent of munitions and explosives of concern, develop and evaluate remedial action alternatives and recommend a preferred alternative.  A public meeting was held to present the work plan and inform the public of proposed work within the Reservation.

The EE/CA report received USEPA, SD DENR and Oglala Sioux Tribe regulatory review. The next steps involve a public meeting to present the EE/CA Report to the community and members of the Oglala Sioux Tribe and develop a decision document.
