Department of Justice Adult Offenders Facility

Environmental Assessment

The Oglala Sioux Tribe successfully competed for a Department of Justice (DOJ) Comprehensive Indian Resource for Community Law Enforcement (CIRCLE) grant for the construction of an Adult Offenders Facility on the Pine Ridge Reservation in south western South Dakota. Parkside Design was selected by the Tribe as the prime contractor and subcontracted with MATRIX to prepare the necessary NEPA documentation for the project, including an Environmental Assessment.  A Finding of No Significant Impact was prepared and signed and  the facility construction began in 2005.

The 56,500 sq. ft. facility secures 144 adult inmates and provides support and treatment plans that include culturally appropriate interventions. Off-site infrastructure projects included road construction and upgrade, water line extensions, and sewer (lagoon) construction.
